As I sit down to write this I can remember the pain I had for years thinking that my body was not right, and that dieting, losing weight and being thinner would solve all of my problems.
I feel really sad thinking of all the time I wasted that I could have been enjoying life, the relationships I blew off, and the dangerous pills I took to achieve my weight goal.
I think of the rough days and the thousands of times I hated myself and my body because of my weight.
I know the pain of struggling with food, eating and body weight because for many years I was a compulsive overeater due to my inability to deal with negative emotions any other way!
I was obsessed with food, my weight and body size, and always thinking that the latest fad diet would be the magical solution and if I just lost 20 pounds, then I'd get the job I wanted, and the right relationship, and I'd be happy.
I was so self-conscious about my body, it drove me crazy.
No matter where I was, I was always thinking of what I had eaten that I shouldn't have, and what I would eat at my next meal. And how I could cheat on my diet and still lose weight.
But I'm happy now and thank God all of that struggle and hopelessness is in the past, because I found something that works incredibly well! I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have all that behind me.
I feel good about myself now, at peace with who I am and how I look. But it wasn't always like this.
Over the next few minutes, I'd like to share my story with you in the hope that it will help you heal yourself of compulsive eating and shed those unwanted pounds. I promise you it can be done… so there is hope, and it's a lot easier than you may think.
I can't be the only one out there that got trapped on the diet merry-go-round, am I? Have you ever lost weight and then gone off your diet, only to gain back all the weight you had lost, and even more?
It's the most frustrating thing in the world.
And even more frustrating for me was gaining pounds because I had Compulsive Eating Disorder. No matter how hard I tried to lose weight, things kept getting worse. I was trapped in a vicious cycle.
The worse I felt, the more I ate because food was the only thing that really made me feel good…even if it was just for a few minutes.
I tried everything to lose weight. I exercised feverishly, hoping to burn off the extra calories I ate from the foods I had "forbidden" myself to eat, but eventually found their way into my mouth.
In order to overcome compulsive eating, I developed my own plan because nothing else I tried had worked. After years of searching, I created my own method and was finally able to put an end to compulsive eating once and for all.
I felt as if I had been let out of prison. What a sense of freedom to not ever have to worry about dieting again!
Part of what worked for me was to begin to uncover and heal the underlying emotional reasons that caused me to eat. First I had to address my feelings of abandonment, self-criticism, anger and mainly, the feeling of never being quite right in my own skin, never being good enough.
In my quest for self-healing I came across an incredible self-development technique called Vivation®, which really worked to change my emotions and bring me peace of mind.
